State-By-State Compliance

Whether it's Federal Davis-Bacon, a state-specific prevailing wage law, or both, it's important to recognize that all states have requirements governing proper payment to workers on public work projects. It is the responsibility of all those involved, whether you are a local agency, developer, general contractor, or subcontractor, to stay up to date with frequently changing prevailing wage requirements.

Minnesota

The State of Minnesota requires the payment of prevailing wage on all public works project paid for, in whole or part by state funds unless

  1. the projected total completion cost is less than $2,500 and utilizes only one trade or
  2. the project’s estimated total cost is less than $25,000 and multiple trades or occupations are needed to complete it.

Certified prevailing wage rates are set by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) and are established based on comparable wages for similar work in counties where the public work project is located.
